The rain clouds cleared up and we were ready to go racing, Bob and I had some small problems in hot laps with our carbs but Ivan fixed both cars in time for us to get out for the second set of hot laps. Bobs car was FAST and my car was looooooose. I stopped and talked to Brad and we made some changes for qualifying.
In qualifying Bob would just miss breaking the track record with a time of 15.733. I qualified descent at a 16.089. Bob would end up second quick and I would start on the pole of the dash at 6th quick.
In the dash the 13 car was still real loose coming out and I would end up finishing third after Bob who had passed me, had a power wire fall off on the last lap.
In the feature I got pushed into a wreck coming for the green and had some cosmetic damage. After getting the green flag I got the car up to second why Bob was busy trying not to get run into the wall by the 11 car. I was shocked we were in second since the car was not wanting to turn at all. A caution would come out for the 11 car spinning out on his own, which would put Bob to the tail. After the caution my car was the best it had been all day and I was patiently waiting for the 52 car of Ron Beebee who was loose to make a mistake, when the 11 car got just a little impatient and slammed into my left rear tire, ripping my door almost off as he drove the car up the track, along my car , spinning both of us into the infield. Which would send me to the tail. It was a REAL bad call, but those things happen in racing. Both Bob and myself now know that if you cant get by someone clean then its ok to either drive them up into the wall or just slam into them. OF COURSE WERE NOT GOING TO DRIVE THAT WAY TO WIN, IN THE PAST I WILL AGREE WE MIGHT HAVE, BUT WE HAVE BOTH LEARNED ITS NOT WORTH IT.
Just a note Im not running for points, Im racing to have some fun....and getting slammed into because you cant wait or cant make a move on the outside is not fun at all, this isn't last year, there's cars out there who aren't just going to move over and let you pass them, and if you feel like you need to hit people to pass them your not gonna have a real fun year.
like to say thanks to everyone for helping both Bob and myself get the cars ready for this race season. Most of all I need to thank, Lisa, Jeanne, and Amanda for letting us put in the long hours it took to put two competitive cars on the track. Happy Mothers Day.
Need to make sure and thank Brad for the help on the car before the feature, the car was great after the spring popped back into place. It was popped out during the first lap wreck coming for the green. I know without him I wouldn't know half as much as I do now and hes still probably forgot more about setting a car up and driving then I know, THANK YOU BRAD! P.S. Promise Brad no more burn outs! |
